Recently, BYD released sales data for November. Data show that BYD sold 301,900 vehicles in the month, a year-on-year increase of 31.1%. This achievement is mainly due to the promotion of hot-selling models such as Qin series, Han series, Song series, Seagull and Dolphin, making BYD a leader in the new energy market. But does it mean that all BYD series are hot sellers? But in fact, it’s not. The models listed below are exceptions.
Destroyer 05: 5950 units
According to November sales data released by BYD, Destroyer 05 sold 5,950 vehicles in that month. Frankly speaking, although this sales volume is not bad, it is slightly inferior to the Qin series (42,400 units). However, as far as the Destroyer 05 Champion Edition is concerned, it is not inferior in terms of product strength. It adopts a large-size polygonal front grille design and is embellished with dotted line elements. The overall appearance of the vehicle is younger than that of Qin PLUS. The wheelbase reaches 2718 mm, which is upper-middle level in the same class.
In terms of the interior, the new car’s seats, steering wheel stitching and air conditioning decorative strips have been upgraded with a glazed jade blue color scheme. The steering wheel and central control panel area are made of matte material, giving it a more classy feel. The car is also equipped with DiLink intelligent network connection system, 12.8-inch adaptive rotating suspension Pad, full-scenario digital key, rear air vents, electric adjustment and heating of exterior rearview mirrors, automatic air conditioning and other configurations. In terms of power, the new car uses a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid system, which provides two range versions of 55 kilometers and 120 kilometers, the same as Qin PLUS.
Why is sales relatively poor? In my opinion, it is mainly because Qin PLUS is more competitive. First of all, the Destroyer 05 only offers plug-in hybrid models and lacks the promotion of pure electric models, so sales are naturally low. Secondly, in terms of pricing, the starting price of Destroyer 05 is 101,800 yuan, which is slightly higher than Qin PLUS, which to a certain extent will make consumers choose the latter. Finally, Qin PLUS itself has stronger appeal in the market, and its sales-driving effect in the travel market is more obvious.
Frigate 07: 2577 units
According to official data, sales of Corvette 07 in November were 2,577 units. Compared with BYD’s other models with sales exceeding 30,000 units, this number is obviously lower. Regarding the product strength of the Corvette 07, you can refer to BYD Tang, but they still have obvious product differences. First of all, Corvette 07 adopts an exclusive design and integrates more marine elements to make the appearance and interior of the vehicle younger and more fashionable. Secondly, in terms of seat layout, the Corvette 07 focuses on a five-seat design, while the Tang focuses on a seven-seat design, although the wheelbase is the same.
In addition, power life and price are also the differences between the two. Currently, Corvette 07 only offers a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system option, while Tang also offers pure electric models. At the same time, the entry-level version of the Corvette 07 has a cruising range of 100 kilometers, which is slightly lower than the 112 kilometers of the Tang DM-i. Finally, in terms of price, the starting price of Corvette 07 is 202,800 yuan. Although it is cheaper than Tang DM-i, this is understandable.
As for the reason why Corvette 07 sales are lower than expected, in addition to the differentiated product strength of Tang mentioned above, the rise of Lynk & Co 08, Xpeng G6 and other models has also diverted consumer choices to a certain extent. 07 sales had an impact.
BYD e2: 1,290 units
According to data, BYD e2 sales were 1,290 units in November. Compared with the previously mentioned models, BYD e2 is less well-known. It can be seen from the car name that it has little relationship with Dynasty.com and Haiyang.com. In terms of design, the new car still incorporates some “marine aesthetics” design elements. The lines of the entire car are simple and smooth, and the optimized front surround adds a sense of sportiness. Open the door, and the overall design focuses on simplicity and sportiness. It is equipped with 8.8-inch instrument cluster, smart rotating Pad and other technological configurations, adding to the sense of technology.
At the same time, the new car is also equipped with practical configurations such as the new DiLink intelligent network connection system, Bluetooth key, remote control, VTOL mobile discharge, heat pump air conditioning, etc., providing users with a more convenient and comfortable driving experience. In terms of power, the new car is equipped with an electric motor with a maximum power of 70 kilowatts and a pure electric cruising range of 405 kilometers.
For BYD e2, the bigger problem is product positioning, especially the large overlap with BYD’s other products. The car is priced between 100,000 and 150,000 yuan, and within this price range, models such as Dolphin and BYD Qin are more cost-effective. So it’s understandable that sales were poor.
Song MAX DM-i: Sales volume unknown
In fact, Song MAX once achieved certain success in the MPV market, but later gradually withdrew from the stage of history. However, the advent of Song MAX DM-i does not seem to have changed its predicament. According to current market feedback, Song MAX DM-i is in a very difficult situation. Officials have not even announced its specific sales data. It can be said that it is one of BYD’s worst-performing models in the hybrid field.
It is no exaggeration to say that BYD Song MAX DM-i is not inferior in terms of product strength. Whether it is the stylish exterior design, comfortable space performance, rich configurations, or the 1.5L plug-in hybrid system that is loved by consumers, it is in a leading position among models of the same level. However, consumers don’t seem to be interested. In my observation, the main reason is that consumer demand has changed. You can find that in the price range of 150,000-200,000 yuan, the sales performance of MPV models is not ideal, because in this price range, consumers can choose from many sedan and SUV models. At the same time, consumer demand continues to escalate, and the demand for high-end MPVs has become stronger. The rise of models such as Denza D9 and Trumpchi M8 has benefited from this trend.
Therefore, it is not surprising that the sales volume of Song MAX DM-i is unknown, as it faces a highly competitive market environment and changes in consumer demand.
